It’s hard to be subjective when one of your best friends shows their art. I knew I would like Thomas’ work, because I’ve been a fan of his art since day one (a decade and a half a go). Thomas was asked by the Crossing Tracks Gallery in San Diego to do a solo show. He accepted, and spent about a month or so digging deep into his mind and battling stress, expectations, worry, frustration, and in the end, glory. Thomas Johnson’s work was surprising and deeply engaging. Thomas has always been infatuated with World War 2 (his brother, him, and his dad have built countless models of tanks and other WW2 vehicles). Measure/Counter Measure is a study of both the emotions, and the day-to-day minutia that went along with life on the front lines. Using prints of his grandfather’s World War 2 photographs captioned with his own studied penmanship and observations, Thomas captures a feeling and a emotion that pulls you in to each photo, and makes you think of each moment as if you were there. I don’t know what “real” art critics say after these kind of shows, but all I can say is bravo, bravo Thomas. I’m very proud to be your friend and a definite fan of your work.

All I can say is this is one of the most fucked photos I’ve ever seen. The driver of this car was drunk and fell asleep. The driver, apparently American claims he didn’t remember hitting the bikers. he says he was coming home from the beach and fell asleep, only waking up when he hit the bikers. A girl was in the car with him, and has already told Mexican officials that they were partying and drinking the night before. Don’t drink and drive.

A lot of us want to be cool. and now that we’re getting older (some of us) and more sophisticated, buying hip and cool furniture helps aid us adults in the quest for coolness. Check out this new furniture from Vapor Studio, If you have one of these skate tables by your front door, you will no doubt 23% cooler than you were before.

Skurniture is a skateboard + furniture brand that has been around for a
few years now. It is the product of Vapor Studio, a full-service creative
firm representing industrial design, interiors, branding and new concepts.
Vapor is headed by Ricardo Camargo, a longtime action sports veteran and
creator of many a successful brand. Their premise is simple: the art of
skateboarding; meets furniture. The legs are reminiscent of the hairpin
legs created by famed designer George Nelson in the 1950’s. You can buy
Skurniture legs (and add your own deck to it) at UNIV shops and online at
Robust Flavor (www.robustflavor.com).

One of my favorite things about Trestles has always been the shit-talk surf-graffiti written in wax on the road down to Lowers. The first time I went to Trestles I was 13 and it felt like I was going on a big time surf trip. I love Trestles. The whole experience of walking down to the beach from the parking lot is like a meditation of sorts. Sometimes it literally takes me an hour to walk down to the road, simply because I have the need to stop and read every piece of radical surf graffiti (the comments that are spelled wrong are the best). So please, all you wax-taggers, keep writing these amazing social commentaries in surf wax, and please Save Trestles!

UNIV presents the “Chris Cote For UNIV” surfboard project (A.K.A. The Winged Stallion Of Life And Death) The surfboard features the original artwork of surfing’s most illustrious character and Editor-In-Chief of Transworld Surf Magazine, Chris Cote.

The art and board is a colorful take on the weapons and contraband featured in popular streetwear prints of late. The surfboard (shaped by George Gall at Plus One Surfboards) is a progression in design and four-fin double-ender meant to be ridden both forward and backwards with ease! As the project rolls out over this summer, the “Chris Cote For UNIV” surfboard is going to be shared amongst the world’s top surfers and highlighted in an upcoming issue of Transworld Surf Magazine and on transworldsurf.com. Also to be released is a t-shirt commemorating the art and the project launch.

The UNIV concept shop featuring uniquely selected footwear, apparel and accessories is located in downtown Encinitas California at 1053 South Coast Highway 101. UNIV’s second location is located in South Beach Miami at 100 Collins Avenue #2, 3.

F—k The Far Side

Photos / Art

Date: March 8, 2008

That title is a little harsh. I can’t tell you how many times I had a robust belly laugh while reading a Far side comic. But like most of you, I think I’ve seen them all. Remember that one where the fish had friends over for dinner and they died and floated to the top of the bowl? Yeah, that was a funny one.

Anyway, there’s a website called creasedcomics.com and on this site you will see the best comics you’ll ever see. If you like Kathy, don’t go there cause you wont get the subtleties and there are no jokes about diet cola or whatever the shit she talks about. The genius behind this site is Brad Neely; you may have watched his stuff on superdeluxe.com. I would like for Mr. Neely to win the goddamn Pulitzer or something.

How can he not win an award for radness? I just wanted everybody to go to this site and get lost in his wit and sketchy vibe—I can’t even tell you how much time I’ve wasted on this site, looking, reading, laughing, crying, laughing, weeping, and laughing some more. I’m so stupid.

Oh yeah, above this is one of Brad’s genius comics, Death and his friend doing a panty raid, how amazing is that shit!
